Spa Therapy: Program Outline  

SP101 HIV / AIDS

(4 Hours)

Education on the transmission, control, treatment and prevention of HIV and AIDS; discussion of attitudes and behavior in dealing with individuals who may have the virus or syndrome; explanation of Board requirements regarding license renewal and completion of the Board approved education course on HIV and AIDS.


SP701 ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY AND KINESIOLOGY

(180 Hours)

A basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology that is necessary in mastering the theory and practice of therapeutic massage.

 


SP702 MASSAGE THEORIES AND HISTORY OF MASSAGE

(105 Hours / 150 Services)

Understand the effects, benefits, indications, and contraindications for massage and knowledge of why massage is known as one of the earliest remedial practice for the relief of pain.


SP703 ALLIED MODALITIES

(98 Hours / 20 Services)

SP708 PATHOLOGY OF THE BODY SYSTEM

(40 Hours)

The knowledge on how the massage therapist can recognize certain irregularities or conditions and make appropriate decisions either to work on a client or refer to another healthcare specialist.

 

SP709 CLINICAL PRACTICUM

(125 Hours / 100 Services)

Receive demonstrations of basic, intermediate and advance massage movements, sequences, rhythms, pressures, quality of touches, and purposes; with an equivalent explanation of the psychological, physiological and physical body response to the treatment.

 

SP710 MEDICAL ERROS 

(2 Hours)

An introduction of the most common sources of medical errors and the most effective steps in preventing them from occurring in the field.

 

SP711 PROFESSIONAL ETHICS 

(6 Hours)

Learn how the practice of good ethics as a member of the health care profession helps to build a successful massage practice.

 

SP712 FLORIDA LAWS FOR SKIN

(5 Hours)

All Rules as set forth by the Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Chapter 477, Cosmetologist Licensures and Operations.



SP714 MAKEUP, EYELASHES AND EUEBROWS 

(50 Hours / 30 Services)

Basic makeup application to transition from a day to night look; variation of eyelash techniques including strip, individual and semi-permanent lashes; eyebrow and eyelash tinting techniques and procedures. 



SP715 HAIR REMOVAL

(23 Hours / 20 Services)

The morphology of hair and its growth stages, different hair removal methods and the conditions that contraindicates hair removal. 



SP716 ETHICS IN BUSINESS SKILLS AND CAREER PLANNING 

(12 Hours)

Will learn how to achieve business skills by career planning in the skin care field, the basic principles of selling products, customer relations and telephone techniques. 


SP718 SANITATION AND STERILIZATION 

(10 Hours / 100 Services)

Infection and disease control for the makeup artist and skin care specialist; the methods of equipment sterilization, cleaning, health and safety in practical use - as per the Department of Business and Professional Regulations (DBPR), safety procedures are part of the on-going curriculum throughout all specific subject areas.

 

SP719 THEORY OF DISEASES AND DISORDERS OF THE SKIN

(73 Hours)

Analyze skin diseases and disorders; identify the various skin conditions that will affect the process of performing and determining types of facials. 

 

SP720 BASICS OF ELECTRICITY AND MACHINES 

(15 Hours / 5 Services)

Knowledge of the nature of electricity, types of electric current, electrotherapy and their uses, facial machines and how to use them safely. 

 

SP721 PRODUCT CHEMISTRY

(8 Hours)

How the various chemistry and its branches, acids, alkaline, and P.H., affect product chemistry components; how to safely use a variety of products.
