Barber: Program Outline  

BA101 HIV / AIDS

(2 Hours)

Education on the transmission, control, treatment and prevention of HIV and AIDS; discussion of attitudes and behavior in dealing with individuals who may have the virus or syndrome; explanation of Board requirements regarding license renewal and completion of the Board approved education course on HIV and AIDS.



BA102 PROFESSIONAL IMAGE

(100 Hours)

Students will learn various techniques of study skills so that it develops effective study habits, the history of Barbering, barbering professional image, human relations, the psychology of success and guidelines for student success.



BA103 BACTERIOLOGY

(400 Hours / 70 Services)

Have an understanding of good hygiene, sanitation, sterilization and safety measures; the principles of prevention and control, implements, tools and equipment.



BA104 TREATMENT OF THE HAIR AND SCALP

(25 Hours / 35 Services)

Proper shampoo techniques and products; rinses for various hair types.



BA105 SHAVING AND FACIAL HAIR DESIGN 

(25 Hours / 70 Services)

Fundamentals of shaving, the mustache and beard, demonstration of standard cutting positions and stokes with a straight razor.



BA106 MEN'S HAIRCUTTING AND STYLING

(200 Hours / 445 Services)

Client consultation, basic principles of haircutting and styling, demonstrations of the following cutting techniques: Fingers-and-shear, shear-over-comb, clipper cutting, clipper-over-comb, and razor cutting.



BA107 MEN'S HAIR PIECES 

(25 Hours / 25 Services)

Hairpiece quality, measuring for the hairpiece, techniques cleaning and styling.



BA108 CHEMICAL WAVING, RELAXING AND STRAIGHTENING

(100 Hours / 60 Services)

Permanent waving identification of chemistry, product and relationship to hair structure, hair relaxer, purpose of relaxing, definition, product ingredients, sodium hydroxide relaxes, steps to chemical relaxing.



BA109 HAIR COLORING AND LIGHTENING

(90 Hours / 60 Services)

Principles of color theory, preparations, including consultation:  Safety precautions for coloring, hydrogen peroxide activity and correction of coloring problems.



BA110 MANICURE AND PEDICURE 

(10 Hours / 10 Services)

Nail shape and disease identification, proper use of implements with demonstrations for male and female manicure and hand massage procedures.



BA111 BARBER SHOP MANAGEMENT

(73 Hours)

Self-employment, operating a successful barbershop, and the promotion of retail and services.



BA112 STATE BOARD PREPARATION AND LICENSING LAWS

(150 Hours)

Preparing for state board exams, all Rules as set forth by the Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Chapter 476 of Barbering Licensures and Operations.
