The Growing Popularity of Massage Therapy School

According to the United States’ Bureau of Labor, the number of employed massage therapists is expected to increase 20 percent by the year 2016. A good indicator of this is that the number of massage therapy schools in the United States has increased significantly over the last several years. The state of California alone boasts almost 60 massage therapy schools.

One factor that has contributed to the increasing popularity of massage therapy schools is the ability of a Massage Therapist to set how many hours they work, and at what time of day. Massage therapy is a personal, client-driven business, and a skilled, friendly and empathic individual can obtain a wide variety of clients. This allows them to work as many or as few hours as they so choose.

To get to this stage in their career, one must acquire the proper training, however. Schools in different states will have different curriculum, but many offer basic massage therapy training, in addition to training in more specialized practices like body wrapping or facial massage. Massage therapy license requirements vary, with some states requiring only the completion of an accredited massage therapy program to begin practicing. Others require therapists to pass the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

As the public has become more aware of the benefits of massage therapy, the future of the industry appears bright. As a result, both the popularity and diversity of programs offered by massage therapy schools has increased.
