3 Reasons to Pursue an Esthetician Education

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

With the beauty and spa industry booming, getting an esthetician education is now better than ever. For many beneficial reasons, attending esthetics schools is a lifetime investment worth making for those with a strong desire to be estheticians.

Estheticians or skin care specialists are licensed specialists who treat and improve the appearance of facial skin through skin care analysis, facials to improve skin tone, peels, extractions to improve skin quality, facial hair removal, eyebrow tinting, and facial massages. Estheticians also advise customers on skin care and makeup techniques and on selecting and applying cosmetic products.

An esthetician education has many benefits: First, it pays extremely well, with a competitive starting salary and additional tips. Second, it is a portable career, which can be performed anytime anywhere, across the country or around the world due to the global need for estheticians. Third, it is a pleasant career which is becoming more popular each day due to the growing desire to look good and care for skin. Estheticians also are required to look good themselves since they represent their own work, therefore these treatments are self-beneficial as well. Experienced estheticians can go on to work with plastic surgeons and dermatologists to perform better paying, more complex treatments.

Consider esthetics school if this sounds like something you’d like to do. An esthetician education is already beneficial today, and it is constantly growing. Go for it now before even more competition is present.

How to Find a Qualified Esthetics School

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Becoming a skin care specialist seems like a fairly straightforward career journey, but in reality, esthetician education can be a hit or miss project. You must look at esthetics school as an investment and shop around for the best options that will pay the best dividends.

The most effective way to find a good school is to hit the pavement and do your research. Are there spas and beauty salons in your neighborhood that you favor, or that boast positive reputations? If you are a client, take the opportunity to speak with the employees – tell them about your own ambitions and poll them on where they got their esthetician education and how they felt about the experience. If this isn’t practical for you, or if you don’t have direct access, there is no harm in simply picking up the phone and asking to speak the director of a salon. Be honest about your intentions and ask them from which schools they prefer their pool of employees. So long as you sound sincere about an esthetician education, you will be surprised by how much information they will be willing to share with you.

And remember, when researching schools, you may be promised a lucrative salary straight from graduation. While this can be true, it’s best to trust the pros instead and to react cautiously to claims that sound too good to be true.
