What Is Required to Become a Barber in Florida

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

To become a barber in the state of Florida, you must meet a certain number of requirements.

First, you must attend an accredited barber school, such as Beauty Schools of America. While there, Florida requires you complete a minimum of 1,200 successful hours of barber training.

Following your completion of these hours, you must submit an application to take the Florida Barber Board so that they can send you a letter of approval to take the licensing exam. This exam will determine whether or not you will be qualified to advertise yourself as a barber in the state.

After passing the exam you are eligible to work in a fully licensed barbershop. You must display your license with a recent photo at your workstation as stated in the statutes of the State of Florida Barber Board.

Becoming part of the beauty industry and helping to create an improved personal image for clients is exciting, but you must have all your credentials in order before you are considered a professional.

What to Look For in a Massage Therapy School

Friday, March 26th, 2010

When choosing a massage therapy school, it is important to know the goals you wish to achieve as a Massage Therapist. You’ll need to know these because a spa training institute in Miami may offer completely different massage therapy courses than one in Boston, and you’ll want to know which ones you need to complete in order to achieve your goals.

Once you have decided on your goals, you are ready to begin searching for a school that can provide you with the most appropriate training. Most of these schools have online brochures or websites, which will allow you to see whether the school will be able to meet your needs. In some cases, you may consider going to school in another city or state in order to receive the best training. If looking out of state, it is important to find out about the licensing requirements for both the state you are studying in and the one you plan to live in — as the requirements may vary.

Cost for schooling can vary depending on the institution. Some colleges, especially those who are accredited, have many options available for financial aid. You may also look into student loans or government grants. Schooling and licensing may range up to $10,000 through completion.

Massage therapy can be a fun and rewarding career. The proper research will allow you to have the best training to fit both your financial needs and your success.

The Importance of Continuing Your Cosmetology Education after Graduation

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

To establish a successful career in the field of cosmetology, one has to be dedicated to learning and mastering new skill sets almost constantly. Cosmetologists begin learning the day they step into beauty school and don’t stop until they retire their scissors.

While initial beauty school courses set the base for a cosmetologist’s education, they teach just a small portion of the skills the stylist will learn over their lifetime. The cosmetology courses ensure that individuals who pass them have a high degree of knowledge in the basics of cosmetology. They then must pass state board exams, which will enable them to practice as a licensed stylist.

However, as previously state, this isn’t the end of a cosmetologist’s time in a classroom. Even once they have successfully passed the state board exams, each stylist is required to keep up with the new hair and beauty trends circulating the world. Like many other jobs, cosmetology is focused around the desires of the people. Most salons require their stylists to continuously attend classes, encouraging them to grow by continuing education in cosmetology. This enables the salon to give their clients the up-to-date, trendy looks they will ask for.

The most successful cosmetologists are those who have spent years working to make sure that they stay one step ahead of the fashion trends. While a hairstyle is in one day, it’s out the next, and in this demanding world, knowing how to give the people what they want is ultimately going to mean lifelong success.

The Growing Popularity of Massage Therapy School

Friday, March 19th, 2010

According to the United States’ Bureau of Labor, the number of employed massage therapists is expected to increase 20 percent by the year 2016. A good indicator of this is that the number of massage therapy schools in the United States has increased significantly over the last several years. The state of California alone boasts almost 60 massage therapy schools.

One factor that has contributed to the increasing popularity of massage therapy schools is the ability of a Massage Therapist to set how many hours they work, and at what time of day. Massage therapy is a personal, client-driven business, and a skilled, friendly and empathic individual can obtain a wide variety of clients. This allows them to work as many or as few hours as they so choose.

To get to this stage in their career, one must acquire the proper training, however. Schools in different states will have different curriculum, but many offer basic massage therapy training, in addition to training in more specialized practices like body wrapping or facial massage. Massage therapy license requirements vary, with some states requiring only the completion of an accredited massage therapy program to begin practicing. Others require therapists to pass the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

As the public has become more aware of the benefits of massage therapy, the future of the industry appears bright. As a result, both the popularity and diversity of programs offered by massage therapy schools has increased.
